Sunday night, January 10

January through March are tough in Iowa. As I make my meal plans and think about the week ahead tonight I can feel a cold breeze coming through the 1950's window in our kitchen. Its about 18 degrees -- about as warm as its been all week. The phone report says we will get a another cold front in tomorrow. I planned soup and bread for three meals this week. Thats what sounds good.

Tomorrow I begin another week as a stay at home mom. My son goes to a local preschool three mornings a week and the youngest is only three months. My two daughters, whom I home school, are in 2nd grade and kindergarten.

A friend at church brought back a cookbook she borrowed from me last year called "The Bread Bible." I was glad to see it again as I've been thinking about baking again. I want to add some cooking and other home making skills to our academic classes this winter. I want to teach the girls some of the basics and I want to join them in learning some sewing and crochet skills. I've always preferred reading a book to these things, but I want to be able to share them with my daughters who are very interested and I've come to appreciate them myself.
